I LOVE these self portraits. I work in mosaics with kids a lot, and some day you have inspired me to do a self portrait project of some sort. Bravo!

Description

This project was undertaken by the whole school from Nursery pupils to Year 6 including Staff, parents and the community. The mosaic is dedicated to Poet Dr Edmund Cusick who passed away following a short illness and who was a father to two of our pupils.

Edmund Cusick was a Lecturer of English at John Moores University, Liverpool and very supportive of Ysgol Carrog. Edmund was a great lover of nature and a friend of the Singer/songwriter Eric Madden who wrote the song ‘I am a Tree’ which is one of our favourite songs here at the School. We took our inspiration from the words of the song which talks about the tree’s life and all the little creatures that live in it.

Edmund’s daughters can be seen peeping from behind the tree in one of the pictures, and each pupil at the school created a mosaic of themselves. The project was part funded from a collection made at Edmunds funeral and donations from his students at John Moores University.

The school worked with local Mosaic Artist Tricia Jones and was officially opened by Eric Madden who sang ‘I am a tree’ with the children.
