Noah’s Ark was created over a period of 3 months, it took about 60 hrs with just 2 parent helper volunteers who ran the whole project. Aside from a couple of test pieces it was our 1st mosaic, although we researched extensively and I went on a workshop with Kate Rattray.
The project took place from start to finish at the school, the whole school contributed. I got a grant from Westbury Town Council to fund it and the mosaic is now being printed onto bags for life.
Each class has its own animal name and they did their own drawings of these to put on and around the ark, I took them and put them into a design which incorporated the school badge/logo (a blue/yellow oval with a very ark like mill on it-the original school was in an old mill), then children came in small groups and worked on the mosaic with us. The end mosaic animals were very close to the kids’ original designs which really pleased us! It is now up in the playground it also has the Westbury White Horse in it, something as with the logo that the whole school relates to.
