A Yr 6 topic on Ancient Egypt was the stimulus. The drawing was traced from a photograph of the mask and the project leader had it enlarged at a local copy centre.

The project leader (artist in residence) sourced all the materials and provided the tools. The charge to the school was for materials only, adult time was given freely.

The children prepared the board, transferred the design onto it, prepared and selected all the tesserae and stuck them down. The project leader grouted the board and the children painted the background in emulsion paint.

The project took just over a week (they had a very understanding Y6 teacher!) All the children in the class worked on the mosaic.
