This school project involved painting a 12m long link corridor with a timeline of the history of Tewkesbury adorned with 8 separate mosaics – a daunting prospect in just one week!  The design was inspired by ideas and drawings submitted by the children, many of which were included and featured subjects from their class topics including the Romans and the Tudors.

The 8 mosaics were created by all the children in the school (over 200, aged between 4 and 11 years), under the supervision of the teaching assistants who had attended an afternoon training session with TomatoJack Arts.  They feature the school’s house emblems; a fox (with a lovely spiky tail), a badger, a rabbit and a hedgehog, as well as a Tudor rose, the school logo, a crown and the Olympic Rings.

In addition to making the mosaics, the children also painted the fabulous patchwork river and finger painted the flowers.  This was a huge project carried out over just one week and was only made possible with the help of lots of parent helpers and the fabulous staff, especially the teaching assistants who did a marvelous job even though it was their first experience of making mosaics!  Hopefully after this experience and training they will continue to explore the art of mosaic further!!

The project was funded by the PTA.
