Description

The Abbey School, Menin Way Farnham, Surrey. A special needs school for 11 to 16 year olds. An initiative of the head of art Aimee Andrews to access some funding for this project. Her aim was to help the children brighton the school environment and learn/ experience new creative skills.

Using the school motto as the central theme and inspired by jigsaw puzzles, Matisse and the wonderfully creative imagination of the young people. Every pupil in the school had a chance to put down some tiles and they were very instrumental in the designing. The pupils have a wide variety of difficulties so for some sticking small tiles is a big challenge, for others sitting still is difficult, for others making working with colour and textures was a valuable lesson.

Once it was up the children were totally enthralled….’that is absolutely amazing miss’….’its so fantastic’ ….’ i love it miss and i did that bit there!’
