The mosiac is based on the Risby School logo which was originally designed by the pupils several years previously incorporating the original church, apple tree branch and the sheep into the new design. The schools wanted a new exciting mosiac for their entrance foyer for eveyone to enjoy. Sarah Draper an Artist and parent of two children at the school was commissined by the PTA to rework the design incorporating the original elements and school colours.

All 150 pupils aged between 4-9 years and all members of staff worked in small groups on creating and implementing the design which evolved over the course of seven days of workshops including working in lunchtimes and after school! The artwork was then taken away to be grouted before being installed, taking around 100 hours to produce in total!

We wanted the mosiac to be a collaborative project so the school community had real ownership of the artwork and a sense of pride and achievement in what they had produced. Everyone throughly enjoyed the experience and it will be enjoyed by many more pupils in years to come.
