This was a whole school project with infants and juniors, (210 pupils) and as music and creativity and the highly acclaimed performances were very important to the life of the school it was decided that music and art would be the theme for the mosaic. We chose to look at the work of Welsh artist Ceri Richards, whose work was also inspired by music.
I spent 3 days doing designs with the children, making collages of instrument shapes inspired by those of Ceri Richards  and paintings inspired by Debussy, as he had done. I then used these art works to design the main mosaic, overlaid it with linear images from photos of the orchestra and placed Caerphilly mountain in the background. I worked with the junior school children on the main panel for 1 day a week for 6 weeks. The side panels were designed and made with the infant classes over 3 sessions. Once completed the mosaic was installed on an exterior wall. The project was not sponsored.
