Description

Part of a Celtic Tree Alphabet Mosaic Trail. Funded by Heritage Lottery Fund and Scottish Natural Heritage under Groam House Museum outreach programme.

This was the first letter of the alphabet representing the Pine/fir, Ailim in Celtic. A design workshop was carried out with the artist and class of 30+ pupils inspired by celtic folklore and celtic artwork. The end result was a class decision ,based on ideas, drawings etc. and laid out by the artist to incorporate  the childrens work.

A night time theme was chosen to highlight the celtic custom of lighting fires around and decorating pine trees with bright, shiny objects. Also use of tallest pines to mark burial sites of important leaders and heroes in the tribe. The children chose  also to include in their designs night time creatures and celtic knotwork. The letter A was created by the shapes of 2 pines together. A group decision.
