Inspired by the historic year of the Olympics and the Queens Jubliee the mosaic ‘Twenty Twelve Together’ was brought about to celebrate the history, activities and friendships of the people of two local villages Wheatley Hill and Thornley. Led by Family learning leader June Richardson of St Godrics Primary School, working alongside artists Angela Tomlinson and Amanda Cuskin.Grant funded by National Lottery Awards for All.

St Godrics Yr 6 children kick started the idea with drawings and their ideas were then put together into a cohesive design and drawn up to scale by artist Angela Tomlinson. Yr 6 children attended the artist led workshops throughout the 4 month project, week days, evenings and weekends, which were held in the School Hall, Thornley Library, Art clubs, scouts and community buildings bringing together children of all ages from 1years to adults up to age 86 yrs. 337 people attended the workshops, sharing and enjoying stories and experiences of the past and present whilst laying tiles. The mosaic is now installed in the entrance of Wheatley Hill Heritage Centre, East Durham.
