About the artist:
Janine is a qualified and experienced art teacher with a Post Graduate Certificate in Education, an enhanced CRB disclosure and public liability. She has worked in schools on mosaic projects as an art teacher and as a visiting artist since 1997. She is based in south-east London and to date has mainly worked in schools in East and South-East London. She is one of the two co-ordinators of BAMM South London.

Mosaic workshops in schools in 2009 included a project with GCSE Art pupils with special educational needs at Pendragon School in Downham, south-east London. Pupils made mosaic self portraits using a range of different materials including ceramic and glass tiles, mirror, buttons etc. The mosaics were based on self portrait collages.

Another school workshop in 2009 was at South Rise Primary School in Plumstead during the school’s arts week. The theme was Renoir’s painting of umbrellas and the mosaic was entered into the National Gallery’s ‘Take One Picture’ scheme.

Other work in schools included making mosaics with Year 7 pupils at Stratford School and at Ilford Ursuline School as well as a residency in Sedgehill School.
