Following receipt of the cheque and materials vouchers by Garden Suburb Infant School they commissioned Maureen O’Kane to work with the children on their Centenary mosaic. The design was based on a map of the local area around the school and the border was made up of drawings by every child in the school – 9 classes from Reception to year 2 – which had been reduced and made into transfers which were fired onto the tiles. The images were Portraits (Reception) Letters from own language (year 1) and Values (year 2)

Using the generous materials budget the school was able to include lots of gold and millifiore in the piece. The main mosaic was completed in a week at the school with contributions from children and staff and it was unveiled at their Centenary celebration on Saturday July 13th 2013.
